Wedding Day Tips to Truly Enjoy Your Wedding Day

A common concern I see among newly engaged couples is that the day of the wedding is always much more stressful than they expected. This causes many people to actually have bad memories associated with what was supposed to be the most exciting day of their lives. So, here’s a few wedding day tips that you can use to help you truly enjoy your wedding day!

Hire Professionals You Can Count On

It’s easy to find horror stories about the vendors brides chose to work with, but for whatever reason it made the entire wedding a bad experience. In my experience, when a vendor pulls out of prior commitments with no warning or no contingency plan, that vendor wasn’t actually a professional. When you hire someone to work for you in your wedding, make sure that they are a trusted name in the industry. This will give you peace of mind and takes a lot of weight off your shoulders.

Additionally, in previous blog posts, I’ve mentioned a few reasons why you should hire a wedding planner for your wedding day. Doing so will make a huge impact on your ability to enjoy the day. He/She will absolutely handle all the details and decision making so you can just relax and enjoy the party instead of feeling like you have to run the entire event yourself!

Start Early

You should always start the getting ready process earlier than you think you should. Even when you think you’re on time, you are probably already late. As a photographer, I know for a fact that weddings run longer than their proposed timelines. And it’s nothing you have done that’s wrong or causing this. It’s just that when you’re coordinating hundreds of people, you cannot expect anything to stay on schedule. So, starting early and planning buffer time into your timeline does wonders to provide ease and a little extra assurance that the day will run smoothly.

Stay Hydrated and Eat

I cannot stress this enough. Whether or not it’s busyness, nerves, excitement or whatever, it’s super easy to forget to eat and drink water. I’m not going to detail graphic descriptions of what happens on wedding days when people don’t. But, you can trust that these things do happen! Extra Pro Tip – have your caterer make your plates ahead of time, and get someone to guard the table where it is.

Don’t Forget to Enjoy the Day!

This is one of the most important wedding day tips I can give you. Wedding days are intense. There’s tens of people doing hundreds of things, and undoubtedly, you’ll be in charge of some of those. So, make sure to build in little moments to soak it all in. Maybe you make a moment when you’re getting ready to ask your mother one last time for any marriage advice. Or at the altar you could pause, take a moment and turn to the crowd of your friends and family who have gathered to support you. So, it’s worthwhile to build in pauses throughout the wedding day so you can commit the sights, sound, smells and all the different aspects to memory so you can treasure them forever. Of course, you’ll have your photographer there, but it’s good to be intentional about looking around and appreciating who is there and all you see!

Plan YOUR Wedding

One of the good things to come out of the pandemic is that brides and grooms are now more free to plan their weddings just the way they want! There is always this lingering feeling that the bride and groom must adhere to traditions in most weddings. But the pandemic’s impact on the wedding industry has made it even more difficult to do everything that Great Aunt Suzie wants to see happen. This has resulted in couples being more free now than ever to do whatever they want to do! For example, it’s becoming much more popular for couples to see each other right up until they’re completely ready and dressed in their wedding attire. Couples are becoming really and truly comfortable with doing what makes them happy. So, build a day that honors you and your significant other. Create a legacy that represents the commitment and love that’s in your story – not in anyone else.

The Biggest of the Wedding Day Tips

Remember why you’re having a big party and wedding! It’s not about the event, but about the love of your life! Be ready to roll with the punches as they come. It could be that your Hair and Makeup artist gets lost and shows up late. It might rain and mess up the timeline. Or, the tables might not be set exactly how you envisioned it. And all of that’s okay. Most of the time, no one’s going to recognize it. The reason people are there is because they want to encourage and celebrate you, as you begin this journey as a married couple when 2 becomes 1.

It’s helpful to remember these wedding day tips for your big day! Afterall, you’re getting married!  Do your best to remember why you’re there in the first place, even if everything goes horribly (which it won’t, but there might be moments you’re afraid that it will). It’s important to remember that at the end of the day you’ll be married to your best friend. It’s the beautiful prologue to an even more beautiful story of your own making!
