3 Reasons Why You Should Take Photos With a Professional Engagement Photographer

There are many reasons why couples decide not to hire an engagement photographer for their engagement photos. Unfortunately, with phone cameras being so prevalent, the desire to have family and friends help photograph is commonplace. However, everyone has seen the photos where Uncle Joe has taken them. And, while he has the best of intentions and he obviously loved doing that for a couple… His photos are unfortunately not going to stand the test of time for a variety of reasons. Ultimately, this might be something the couple regrets later on in their marriage. So, here are my top three reasons why you should hire a professional photographer to take your engagement photos.

You are Hiring an Expert

When hiring a professional, they are an expert. They have been trained on how to utilize light, location and layout to provide photos that you are going to treasure forever. If you work with a professional, the photos will be heirloom quality that you’ll be delighted to not only hang on a wall, but to show your children and grandchildren for generations to come. You desire lovely photos, taken by a professional, that show the best side of you and really capture how you are in the ways that people who are not professionals simply are not trained or experienced enough to do.

A Professional Provides a High Quality Experience

Professionals can provide high quality experiences that non-professionals cannot. One of my hallmarks and how I know I’ve done a great job during an engagement session is when the couple agrees that the session was even more fun than they thought it would be. The way you feel during the session will forever impact what you see when looking back on those photos. Additionally, professional photographers know how to pose couples in a flattering way and can provide suggestions on locations and wardrobe. This is based on years of experience and countless photo sessions. So they really are a wealth of knowledge that can serve the couple better than someone without that experience.

An Engagement Photographer is Usually a Wedding Photographer Too

Often, when a couple is looking for an engagement photographer, remember they are a wedding photographer as well. So many photographers, myself included, often include engagement sessions in the packages they offer. Not only does that save you money, but it also provides you the opportunity to practice with that particular photographer for your wedding day ahead of time. So, your photos with that photographer are faster and easier. So, you’re able to get back to your loved ones more quickly on the wedding. It creates a smooth experience during what can be a hectic time if your wedding is running behind schedule.

So, those are three reasons why it’s a good idea to hire a professional engagement photographer instead of relying on a friend or family member. You’re only in this season of engagement for a short time, you don’t want to leave it to chance whether or not those photos come out right!
